Thinking Beyond The Dead Of Winter

Yes, it’s the dead of winter, there’s a foot of snow on the ground and the temperature is in the single digits.  So, to warm myself up I must think of spring and work on new items that bring warm thoughts of Carnival Balls and Summer Galas.  With that in mind, I bring you this “Gilded Lily” tiara.

Cosmic Unicornz, Fashion Show At Pop Allston

I loaned some pieces to Cosmic Unicornz, for a fashion show called Pop Allston’s Pride Party over the weekend and what a time they must have had…

Now here’s a girl who really knows how to rock a tiara!

As a designer and maker of such bold sparkly objects, it’s such a treat to see them worn in the spirit for which they were created.  Just look at my Mermaid Queen necklace and tiara on this lovely young model…

And remember, these items and so many more are available in my shop.

Hey, I Got A Commission!

I’m very excited about this latest project, a lovely etsy customer saw this necklace and earrings on my web shop.

Richard Bradley, Jewelry, My Pink PlanetNow they’d like a matching tiara.  So, I thought this would be a great opportunity to share with my followers my approach to the design process, and the steps I take in creating such a piece.

The first, and most important, detail is communication.  I find visual aids, in addition to written communication, most helpful.  So here is my proposal…

To begin with, let’s take a look at the necklace.

My Pink Planet, Richard Bradley

It’s a very detailed piece and has lots of movement, but I think to create an inverted version of it should do the trick.

Now, it’s important to use your imagination here, these are just raw stones in un-plated settings, laid out on a piece of paper.  This is just to get an idea of size and shape, got it?

Okay, now I need you to imagine the square and pear shape emeralds to be surrounded by crystals as shown in the following pictures.

The stones that surround these parts have been ordered and should arrive any day now.  When they are added, this piece will have a fuller more blinding effect.

Also, in the necklace there are some emerald glass beads, these beads are no longer available and I’m having a hard time finding any that match.  I’m not sure they would add much to the tiara anyway, but I’ll see what I can come up with.

So, here’s an overview of what the set will most likely look like at this point, and please use your imagination, as I mentioned before, this is a very raw interpretation of the finished project.

Stay tuned for future posts on this project, I’ll do updates when I get feedback from this client.  Meanwhile, why not have a look at my shop CLICK.

Update:

Well the customer feels that they need something with more presence to it, in other words LARGER.  They like the “Roberta” tiara (click Costumes, Tiaras, and Masks at the top of this page) and would like me to make a similar one but taller.

Of course I’m always happy to make big and bold pieces , “less is a bore” as they say, so here’s the plan.  Since the design of the proposed tiara is somewhat different from the existing necklace, and might over power it, I’ll create a second necklace and earrings and let them choose what works best for them.  These two photos are just quick snapshots of various pieces laid out to indicate what I propose the finished items will look like.

Thanks for following my blog, and I’ll have another update on this project very soon!

Update:

Okay, the set is complete!  What do you think?

Cleaning House

Well it seems that winter is upon us and although I prefer the warmer weather, I’m looking forward to a creative hibernation in my much neglected studio.  In preparing for this I realize that a good cleaning is in order.  So as part of my organizational effort, and to raise funds for future projects, I’ve decided to sell off some of my design portfolio from the 1980’s, and at some very good prices too.

If you see anything here that interests you, then please visit my online shop by clicking HERE.  If you see something you like in the “Vintage collectable” section, and it exceeds your budget, feel free to make me an offer, but please be reasonable.

Thanks for checking out my rosy little world,

Off To The Platers

I’ve been awfully busy lately working on my spring line.  Here’s two items that are out to be electroplated, if all goes well they’ll be back today.  Just in time for tomorrow’s show, talk about cutting it close!

I know these aren’t the best quality photos, but if I have time before the show I’ll take better ones when they’re all plated.

Working On A New Line For Spring

It seems that Spring is here and although the climate may try to argue this point, the crocuses in my front yard are telling me otherwise.  In any case the change of season has motivated me to begin work on a new line for my upcoming shows.  I’m still in the early design phase so keep in mind that these pieces are far from finished.

It’s been a while since I’ve done a Rhinestone/Crystal line, but since prom and wedding seasons are upon us, the time feels right.

I apologize for the poor quality of these photographs, time is in such short supply, and if I don’t rush these blog posts they won’t happen at all.  I promise that when I post pictures of finished work they’ll be of much better quality.  Meanwhile, please have a look at my online shop, My Pink Planet by Richard Bradley.

Until next time, thanks for checking out my blog!

Tiaras, The crowning touch.

I’m very pleased to share with you that my nephew, Raymond, is getting married this fall.  I’ve also been honored by his fiance with a request to create her wedding jewelry.  As you might imagine, she didn’t have to ask me twice!  I’ve seen the dress and it’s beautiful, very simple with some beading.

She did mention a tiara as a possibility.  Now Bryn isn’t a flashy kind of girl, very down to earth, veterinary’s assistant, you know the type.  However, if you can’t wear a tiara on your wedding day, when can you.  Don’t get me wrong, nothing in this world can make a person feel more special than a tiara.  In fact I believe you should have one on hand for those occasions when you need to feel special, doing the dishes, vacuuming, etc.

So what I’m sharing with you in this post are some of the many tiaras I’ve created in the past.  Now keep in mind these pieces were made for couture runway shows and drag queens and I’m well aware that I’ll have to tone it down for what ever I come up with for this wedding.
